Remember your first day as an intern? That moment when you realized that all your academic achievements couldn't help you figure out how to write a professional email or run an effective meeting? I do, like it was yesterday. Quite frankly, I am still learning to this day.
Learning the Hard Way
I vividly remember landing what seemed like the golden ticket – a summer internship at Goldman Sachs. As the first in my family to enter the corporate world, I had no roadmap, no family mentors to guide me through the unwritten rules of professional life. Despite my academic achievements, I was unprepared for the corporate environment, and it showed. Unsurprisingly, I didn't receive a return offer.
Years later, as we launched the Young Founders School internship programme, I saw history repeating itself. The feedback from companies was eerily familiar – bright students who were big on enthusiasm but struggled with basic workplace navigation. It became clear that we hadn't bridged the gap between classroom excellence and workplace readiness.
The Hidden Curriculum
Think about the skills that seasoned professionals take for granted:
How to write professional emails
How to communicate in a corporate setting
Setting clear meeting agendas
Basic sales and negotiation techniques
Understanding contract fundamentals
Financial literacy and P&L interpretation
Personal brand management
These aren't typically taught in schools unless you specifically major in a particular area like business or Law. Most of us learned them through trial and error or, if lucky, through a patient mentor. We don’t think these essential skills should be left to chance.
A New Generation, A New Approach
Today's students are different. They're not just seeking traditional career ladders – they're experience collectors. They want to weave their own professional tapestries. They value diversity in experience over years of service. However, without understanding the fundamental skills needed across different professional paths, how do you even begin to weave your tapestry.
Introducing YFS's New Initiative
This is where Young Founders School comes in. We're launching an ambitious multi-year project to bring essential life skills to high school students worldwide. Think of it as earning professional scout badges – from beginner to advanced levels. Students can:

Why This Matters
In today's rapidly evolving job market, traditional degrees alone aren't enough. These aren't just nice-to-have additions to your resume – they're essential tools for professional success.
Looking Forward
